Hi,
I've installed the latest release maintenance 5.3-03 but it failed the install. How can I remove it or reapply it?.
Thanks.

failed" means what? installation process completed with status "failed"? if yes you don't need to remove/roll back because your "failed" is linked only to a few fileset(s) which were probable not installed due to some dependencies. when you meet the requirements you can run again "smitty update_all" from you ML03 direcotry or media and update the rest of filesets.

you can rallback you update only when during installation you select "NO" co commiting. Only applied filesets can be rejected. Comitten can only be force reinstalled/overwritten.

Restore from your mksysb. I'd go to ML4 fixes quite a few buffer overflow problems.

George did you try with volume2..package i.e.53003_v2.tar.gz
like if your volume 1 return with same ML as before than you need to go for volume 2.

what does the output of oslevel -rl 5300-03 give? Then you will see which filesets arent at the latest level. If these are just a few, I wouldn't uninstall the ML ,but try updating these filesets 1 by 1 ( with a preview install, then you will see the missing prerequisites for the fileset )

rgds,

R.
