When we make a conference call with one external and one internal the quality of voice is fine, but if we add an additional external we get degraded voice quality (echo) with all lines on conference. We are using analog lines on a BCM 400 4.0.

Our vendor said this is 'just a sympton of anlog'.

I really find it hard to believe that the BCM cannot handle conferencing two external lines. Is this the case or could there be a config issue?

thanks for the help!

there is a db loss when conferencing analog trunks it's not just a BCM issue its any system running analog trunks basically there is 1 solution upgrade to a T1/PRI and you will notice that everyone on the conference call sounds just as clear...

You vendor is right , that's an analog symptom and as norstarboy125 mentionned the best thing to do is to go with a PRI. There's many benefits to have PRI like better voice quality, almost no DB loss when conferencing, flexibility,AA on first ring instead of waiting 2 rings to get caller ID etc..

You might want to find out if the external analog trunk is capable of conferencing by way of using the flash F71 feature. If so you will be using the outside CO to do the conference and the audio quality will have no end to end volume drop. This feature is capable on Centrex or (in Canada) local link lines. It is also on most reseller lines. So instead of using the BCM for conferencing, you'd be using a central office feature.
