Defragmenting & Exchange 2000

We have a Windows 2000 server with Exchange 2000 on it. After analysing the volumes on the server, two of the volumes require defragmenting. One of these volumes has Exchange on it. I have been told that I should not defragment this volume as Exchange looks after this itself.

Is this correct? Will defragmenting the volume with Exchange on it cause some problems for Exchange?
