I noticed our data drive on our Exchange Server is heavily fragmented. (not the IS store, but the drive itself) Is it safe to run the Windows 2003 Server defrag software that is provided with the operating system? Would it be advisable to stop Exchange first? Has anyone done a defrag on an Exchange server without problems?

Thanks for your help.

Same here...any advice or suggestions from the "pros"?

Guys

You can defrag the drive and as mentioned it's good sense to dismount the store first and stop the services

I have found it far quick to dismount , then move the .edb's off to another location, defrag the drive and them move back. moving the file back will do the same job as a file defrag (this does not however effect the state of the whitespace with the edb itself)
