How do you get the windows defrag tool for Windows NT4.0 It is not on my tools display? (which says it was not installed) Any clue will be appreciated - Thanks Jeff

There is no included tool for defrag in NT4.0. You have to purchase something. You can do 'trialware' from Executive Systems of Diskeeper... I haven't used any of the others (symantec, etc.)

Why do you want to do it? I was told there is nothing to be gained when the OS is NT as it does enough caching and forward reading of its own to remove the need to defrag. Anyone know the truth?

I found two defragmenting tools for NT at
dirms defrags partitions en buzzsaw defrags on the fly.
There's a story about the need to defragment NT4, too.
