I have 2 X 6.4 gig hard drives on my system. My 'C' drive defrags fine with the option of 'make programs run faster'
but when trying to run defrag on my 'd' drive it comes up with the message telling me to run Scandisk. I run a thorough session of scan disk then try defrag again and again I get the failure.
I have managed to run defrag with the 'make programs run faster' option turned off and its fine but with the other option it gets to 10% then highlights the first line then comes up with the error.
Has anyone any clues about this one?

I wouldnt use Microsoft's Defrag(which is quite outdated in my opinion and not too great at it's job) Go with something like Norton Speeddisk, or Nuts & Bolt's Defragger.

Also with Microsoft Defrag, make sure you close any possible program, and pause task scheduler whenever you try to defrag, and run scandisk on the drive, if it keeps dying out on you, try to run a surface scan on scandisk, to make sure the problem isnt physical

Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML, ASP(somewhat), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

Good advice, kb244. MS defrag and scandisk are still a little buggy. Robb, if you don't have access to Symantec or McAfee, try running scandisk after booting to your Win98 boot disk.

<a href= temporary Vorpalcom home page
Send me suggestions or comments on my current software project.

P.S. right-click on the drive in "My Computer" and select Properties. If the "Used space" and "Free space" don't add up to match the drive specs then you may be looking for a different solution. It's rare... but it happens.

<a href= temporary Vorpalcom home page
Send me suggestions or comments on my current software project.
