Definity One 9.0 with 2420 Phones

I'd like to hang a couple of 2420 phones off of a 9.0 switch. The phones come up and I'm able to dial out, and the softkeys with, with the caveat that I label them manually in the phone. The voicemail button doesn't seem to work though. This is not a supported setup, so I'm wondering if anyone else has made it work. The switch is not licensed, and I don't have a sold to, not sure if there is any way I could upgrade it to 10.0.
