Please bear with me, I usually admin partner systems. I was wondering about how definity liscencing works. I have read in various posts that definity needs to be licenced, and certain features must be "activated". I'm not planning on doing this, but if I buy a brand new TN798B circuit pack from someone like MetrolineDirect.com, what further actions have to be taken to liscence the product? Does it come with a default login and certain basic features activated? Or am I just paying for hardware and have to contact avaya for RTU? Just asking out of interest, my understanding of definity has always been kinda hazy. Thanks

The Definity / MultiVantage / Communications Manager software runs on a Right to Use licensing model. The only way to aquire additional RTU licensing is by purchasing them through an Avaya business partner.

Depending on your software level, all stations (x ports included) & trunk ports (on older software levels) programmed in the switch require a RTU.

As sjforcum said, all features are licensed or RTU (Right to Use), similar to Microsoft CAL licenses (Client Access License).

- You have port licenses (for every station, ever analog line, every T1 channel, etc).
Feature license (ie: CTI, ACD, Expert Agent, etc).

All licenses are purchased from and activated by Avaya or a business partner (who buys it from Avaya).

If you buy boards from a refurbisher, you can use them provided you have the licenses to do so. IE: Buy a Digital Line card and 24 digital phones to add 24 more stations, you need to have sufficient port licenses.
