We have a redundant TN556 BRI card in our system, and want to replace it with an additional TN2214 Digital card. Is it as simple as swapping the card and then programming the new extensions on the same 01A09xx that the BRI card was using?
Thanks!

tn556 is a 4-wire BRI card that supports 4-wire BRI voice terminals and data modules.
tn2198 is a 2-wire BRI card that supports 2-wire BRI voice terminals and data modules.

These are not the same as a tn2214 2-wire DCP that supports digital phones. They are not interchangeable.

I'm slightly confused now... My understanding was that any card could go in any slot. We have nothing currently connected to the TN556, and would be connecting 6408D+ phones to the TN2214. Which part is not interchangeable?
Thanks!

If there is no programming associated with the tn556 you can remove it and plug in a different type circuit-pack. My original thread stated the two different board types do not support the same set types. This was based on your original question.

If the ports show any numbers or "t" then you will need to remove the port programming
and turn off tti before you remove the board and plug in a different type board.
Command: list mark and make sure there are no marked ports on the board.
If all the ports show "u" then unplugging the board will remove the board from software
and you can plug in a different type board with no conflicts.

Code:
list config board 1a09

03E12 BRI LINE TN556 000010 t t t t t t t t
                                                     t t t t t t t t
                                                     t t t t t t t t

Thanks very much for clarifying that. The board config does indeed show t's and numbers, so will need clearing.

It's currently showing:
Code:
01A09 BRI LINE TN556D 000001 t t t t 03 t t t
                                        t t 06 t t t t t
                                        t t 10 t t t 12 t

display port 1a0903, 1a0906, 1a0910, 1a0912 to get station numbers or datamod extensions.
remove station xxxx, remove data xxxx
list config until all "t"
change system features and turn tti off
list config all "t" will change to "u"
unplug board, plug in new board
change system features and turn tti on

Thanks. Did this at the weekend, all swapped ok.
One issue with the programming though.
When the card was in and tti back on, all the ports on the card config show as p.
Allocated port 1 (A0901 in the system) to an extension & everything was ok. Duplicated that extension to ports 2,3,& 4 - but only ports 1 & 2 can make/receive calls. What am I missing? (All 4 extensions have the same coverage path and are members of the same pick-up group. Also, all 4 extensions existed in the system on different ports prior to being moved to the new card.)
Looking at the config of the card now shows the ports 1,2,3,& 4 in use for the extensions.

p" means psa is enabled. "t" when psa is enabled is still used on BRI port card ports.
If you have a number for a port, the port is assigned.

Use Commands "status station xxxx" and "list trace station xxxx" when making or receiving
a call for station xxxx. This will help you figure out if you have a wiring or programming
issue.
