Hello All,

I'm hoping this kind of question is allowed, and not too general.

I'm looking for some help with initial set up and administration of a Definity ECS csi PBX. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to Definity. I've only worked with Nortel Norstar, Avaya Partner and Avaya Merlin Magix systems. So Definity is a little more complex than I'm used to.

I'm basically looking to see if anyone knows of or has any resources on system installation, wiring, and administration. I was digging around online and found a few things. However, its brought up more questions than answers. Such as how to connect with Avaya Site Administration (how to establish a serial connection with the processor / do I need a special Amphenol break out cable as something described), and wiring questions such as do I need to have this elusive Main Distribution Frame? Or can I just use 66 blocks to interface with the switch.

I appreciate any help you all can provide. I'm a little lost with this system, to be honest. I do have a basic understanding of the system, however. I'm up for the challenge!!!

Thanks!

Mark

Thanks for the links, folks. Now what cable do I need to be able to establish the RS232 link to the processor? And can I use 66 blocks for I/O to the switch? Or do I have to try and find an Avaya MDF for the system?

You can use a 66 or 110 block for the stations. The "Avaya MDF" is basically a 110 block if I remember correctly.

Hopefully you have an octopus cable off the back of the cabinet with the modem connection on it. If not, you'll need to buy (comcode 847960002) one or make one. The pinout is on page 2-17 of
