Looks like the tape drive has failed on the Definity Audix at one of my sites. Get a minor and warning alrams 1 and 4. Try to add tape and tells me hardware unit fault. Test tape fails, add tape first. Tried replacing tapes to no avail. Tried cleaning drive to no avail. Any suggestions. I do have another definity Audix unit in my parts box. Can I just swap out the tape drives? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Looking to try this over the weekend since Audix still seems to be working. But for how long no one knows with nightly storms and power outages.

I would buy an audix LX and smash the definity audix. It's best for you and the definity audix.

Yes you can just swap out the tape drive by unclipping the 2 clips that hold it on. Very simple. I would invest in some type of UPS for your switch or the Definity Audix won't be running at all once a power failure happens. The Definity Audix must be put into a running switch and shut down in a running switch. Turning on or off the switch with the Definity Audix seated inside will basically blow it up!

I wouldn't go so far as to say it will blow it up if it loses power. The hard drive in the Definity Audix has an Avaya form of Linux software controlling the board, so shutting it down is best either through the "Shutdown" button or software shutdown through the console interface. It is like Windows and likes a graceful shutdown. And yes the tape drive is fairly easily removed, there are also screws on the back holding it in. I think it is a SCSI drive so check and match all jumpers.
