Defining IP Codec

How can I configure a particular trunk group to use G.723/9 by default as oppose to having it set to use g.711? I have a set of IP/QSIG trunks experiencing "clipping" and the limited amout of allocated IP Ports (bandwidth)... appears to be the issue. I am hoping that the G.723/9 compression will help.
