Defining Current Date as Default for Table Column 1

I would appreciate any help with a very simple question.

What can I put in as the default value when creating a table with a date column so that the current date will automatically populate the field.

Like I said, a very simple question.

No can do. In accordance with

http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/CREATE_TABLE.html

, default values must be constants, not functions.

I don't know whether this will change in future versions of MySQL.
