I WANT TO ADD TTYs IN MY SYSTEM, BUT I CAN'T PUT BELOW ADAPTER TO "AVAILABLE":

sa2 Defined 00-01 16-Port Asynchronous Adapter EIA-232

WE HAVE THIS 16-PORT RAN/BOX.

CAN SOMEBODY GUIDE ME?

smitty >> Async Adapters
choose the adapter from the list then choose "configure a defined ..."

if this does not work try running cfgmgr -v fromt he command line.

I believe the 16 port RAN units need a "node" number to be set on them, so if you have multiple units, it can identify each one on the daisy-chain seperatly. So check the node number, as well as the LCD on the front, it should be displaying "AC".

Once the adapter is available, you can go through smit to add the ttys to this devices.

CROW,

THANKS, BUT 'TRIED FIRST 2 AND WON'T WORK.

DO I NEED TO INSTALL ADDITIONAL DRIVER? HOW ABOUT "node" NUMBER THAT NEED TO BE SET? FOR NOW - I DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA HOW-THIS WORK

FROM IBM:

THEY LET ME CHECK 128-PORT ADAPTER AND EVERYTHINGS' LOADED INCLUDING THE DRIVERS.

THEY TOLD ME TO POWER ON THE RAN 16-PORT, AFTER CONNECTING IT TO THE ADAPTER AND PUTTING TERMINATOR ON THE OUT OF RAN.

RAN SHOULD FLASH OUT "AC", RUN "cfgmgr" & ADD TTY FROM SMIT. DEVICE "sa2" SHOULD BE ONE OF THE OPTION, SELECT AND PROVIDE THE PORT NUMBER & SO FORTH...

ALSO, CHECK THE NODE 2 TO 4 OF LINE 1 (OF THE ADAPTER), SHOULD BE "none" from "direct"
