I need to set up an environment to run CICS transactions and I am not a systems programmer. Can someone give me some information on the steps I need to take. I have the programs, files and transactions written up but I don't know how to load them. I would like to know where to fine these answers.

Thanks in advance

I do not know of ANY IBM mainframe shops in which an "application" programmer is allowed to make the changes to even a CICS *TEST* (much less production) region that are required to "activate" a new application.

Does you shop currently have CICS test and production regions? If so, have you TRIED to find out who is responsible for making the changes for new applications?

Bill..

This is zSoftware (Gary).

I agree with you 110%. My attempt for the original poster was to "educate" himself about the processes involved.

"CICS Application Programmers", or ones just first getting their feet wet into this arena should have "some" knowledge as to how CICS "resources" work.

Having been (and still am) a Systems programmer, I personally always appreciate an Applications Programmer having some knowledge of his/her CICS application and the various resources required.

I have never been in a shop where there was not some type of "formal" turnover procedures/processes where the "Applications Group" would submit the request to the "Systems Group (or CICS Systems Group) for region, resources, etc..

So, again I agree with you 110%, my attempt was just to point the individual to the "official" IBM doc on the resource(s) aspect.

Sorry if it sounded as if I was disagreeing with you. In fact, for those who run any of the "CICS on Workstaion" products (UniKicks, Micro Focus, CA-Realia, etc), it is often an INTERESTING thing how "application programmers" sunddently need to learn what it takes to make an application "available".
