I am new to Crystal XI (from 8.5) and completely new to parameters. I have read the Help files and there doesn't seem to be a way to add default values to dynamic parameters. I also read FAQ149-1485 which had a link to a website ( that might have a possible work-around, but that link came up as page cannot be displayed. I was wondering if anyone knows of another work-around for having default values in a dynamic parameter?

I am asking this because I am trying to create a report that has multiple parameters (Project Number, RFI Number, Date Created, etc.). I want people to be able to run this report without picking a parameter if they want everything, or be able to filter as needed on any of the parameters. I figured out how to do the default value for Project Number, but RFI Number and Date Created are not feasible as static fields since they are updated frequently.

Thank you for any help.

I think the expectation is that users will just click on the double arrow >> to choose all selections, and therefore there is no need for a default, although it does mean they will have to actively add values to the screen. You might want to add something like the following to your prompt: To choose "all", click on >>; otherwise press control and select each value you would like and click on >.

I've seen this done using a command object, I think it was using a Union, as in:

select 'All' MyList from table
UNION ALL
select field MyList from table

The use this as the source for the dynamic picklist.

I couldn't find the whitepaper, but I think that there's an sample report that uses it.

Thank you both for the replies. I used the Command object. I was hoping for a way to have it default to "All" for everything without having to select anything. My users have this "thing" about extra mouseclicks :) I'll just tell them it's exercise for their hands. Thanks again!
