I am using Microsoft Access 97 with an existing database having multiple tables. I opened up one of the tables, went to View-Design View, clicked on a particular Field, changed the Type from Yes/No to Text, entered comments in the Description Field and set the Default Value to a text value. Then I saved the changes. I also manually edited that field in the Datasheet View by filling in text values for entries in that field. I closed the table and reopened it. The Type remained Text and the values in that field for all of the entries in the Datasheet View remained. But the Default Value and the Description comments disappeared. Does anyone know why this happened and how I can get this Default Value to stick? I'd like to be able to automatically fill in new entries with this Default Value but whenever I try to close the table (or the database) the Default Value that I typed in and saved, disappears.
Thanks!

Sounds odd. I tried this and had no problems. If you put in a default value in table design view, that value should appear in the new record line (the one with an asterisk at the left) at the bottom of the datasheet, in the column for that field. Alex Middleton

Did you try Compacting and Repairing the database? Lots of weird things can happen that this fixes.
