Hello i am running access 2000

and i have old records
i want to add a field that has dr. as a default.

now, i have gone made dr as a default. it is doing so for new values to be inserted but not for the old records.

If you want to correct older records to get everything with "Dr.", I suggest an update query. Or the brute force method of pasting Dr. in the table, assuming the table isn't that long.

The "default value" applies only when it's a new record. I'm 93.7% sure of that anyway.

Thast field did not have a default set from the start so it will not update old records. you need to run a piece of code to update the value in that fields.

I ahve code that will do this but it is at home and I would not be able to email the code to you until later this evening. after 9:00 PM central time
