Hi,

What is the best way to create a default user profile so that each new user starts off with the same desktop settings etc? I am using roaming profiles at the moment and have created a local user with a customised profile that I want to apply to all users. When I create a user I point their profile to a location on the server and copy the default user profile I created earlier to their roaming profile location. The only problem I have found with this is that certain settings e.g. MS Office toolbar, internet explorer default home page is only visible when the user is given administrator rights and not visible when the user is given power user rights. Is there a better way of doing this?

you must logon with an account that isnt Admin, then change all your settings to what you want as standard.

Then logon as an Admin and delete the contents of the Default User folder (leave the folder) and copy in the contents of the test user you just used to set everything up.

Test your settings by logging on as a new user. I have found this to work great, I keep a copy on my server of these settings and copy them to any new computer i set up.

you can even create multiple default settings for say dif computers in dif areas of the building or desktop vs laptop. it even takes printer settings.

hope this helps...

To create a Default user, you need to define a desktop environment on the client that suits you, and then logon as an administrator on that client. Copy the profile (using the 'copy to' option in user profiles) to a directory called 'default user' on the netlogon share of your authentication server. Do not forget to adjust the rights on this folder so that everybody can read from it. Next time you create a user and define a profile path to get a roaming profile, the default profile will be the one you just created.

Regards,
