Default url for folders

Not sure if this is the right place to post. It is a sharepoint site, but this seems to be a IIS or something outside of sharepoint problem.

When through the web I try to hit the site with the ip address like

http://28.182.110.114

or

http://28.182.110.114/subsitefolder,

it doesn't work (that isn't the actual ip address).

But if I do

http://28.182.110.114/default.aspx

or

http://28.182.110.114/subsitefolder/default.aspx

it works.

This causes the links not to work also when you click from one subsite to another with the sharepoint website.

But when I am actually setting on the server box and I click the links or not type the full url without the 'default.aspx', it works.

Any ideas as to why it won't work externally through web pages. IIS setting, router setting???

I am more of a programmer who is also now acting as administrator for this work and feeling my way through.

move default.aspx to the top of the document list, if it isn't there add it.
