Ok, So basically at my site everyone sticks to their own workstation.. but sometimes there is the occasional ..I'll log onto someone else's workstation to view a webapp or my email.

We are moving from a workgroup environment (no server) to an AD environment.

First phase is going to be getting everyone's local profiles copied over to AD profiles on their own machines.

...we are trying to avoid roaming profiles due to storage space.. BUT what I was thinking (if we can do it)

-------------------
I'm setup on my machine and it has my profile on it .. "ad\user" now the SYSTEM sees that I'm on my own machine and loads my profile that is stored locally for my domain profile...

BUT if I log onto a different workstation the SYSTEM sees that "ad\user" doesnt have a domain profile stored locally... WOULD it be possible to then pull down a "default roaming profile" and apply it to this user on this desktop..

-----------------------

What I'm asking is if its possible to setup a default roaming profile that could be applied to users that log onto machines that do not have a local domain profile for that user.

Currently it would just create a default profile off of who knows where onto the workstation with all default configurations for that domain..

I would like to setup a default profile that would already include helpfull icons, favorites, and a custom background and such.

Is it possible to understand what I'm explaining?
Is it possible to Do what I'm explaining?

and I'm sorry for my weak knowledge of ad.. but I much appreciate your help!

You can create a default profile that will be downloaded if the user doesn't have a profile already, you can place this in the netlogon folder on the server and have it configured how you like.

2 ways of doing this,

create a default profile on a PC with all relevent settings, and rename it to default user and place in the netlogin share

other way to set th is up is via group policy, you can set links on desktop, background ect.
