Hi

if you set a network printer through smit printers panel as default printer, will all print jobs be directed to this printer rather than there allocated network printer?

if so how would you switch this off?

Manage Print Queues
Set the System's Default Print Queue

Set the latter to empty.

Hi

I have left the field empty and hit enter and get a message

any ideas?

The default printer is only used when no printer is designated when submitting the job.

When you talk about a job's "allocated network printer", do you mean the printer in a command like "lp -dprinter file"? If so, then those jobs will print on the designated printer, not the default (unless, of course, the designated printer IS the default :)).

If you're talking about having different default printers for different logins or scripts, the solution is to set the environmental variable LPDEST to the appropriate print queue name.
