Hello,

I have a customer who has a problem with a Windows 2000 Terminal Server. The initial report was that every time the server is rebooted, the default printer changes for all remote users to a certain printer at Site 1. This is for all users, including those at Site 2, so is quite annoying.

I have already done some research on this, and found Q196732
appeared to be the anwser to my problem, as in the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Device the printer that was defaulted to indeed had the number Ne00.

So i setup the logon script as required and found the following confusing result.

---------
Under Printers, NO printer now has a default tick. Not the original one at Site 1 or the one I have just tried to make default via the script.

ALL registry changes made by the script seem to be successfull, just have been ignored.

When I go to notepad, FILE, PRINT, as soon as I go there, the default tick returns to the original printer that I don't want.
------------
Any idea's as I am baffled. The Q seemed to be for NT, however other posts I have seen indicate should work for 2000 also. Maybe there is another key somewhere that needs changing.

Any ideas????? Thanks in advance.

hi,

the default printer is a user profile variable;

the user may have not capability (skill or permission)
to set their default printer.

If read well Q196732, ne00 is the first printer installed,
not the default one, furthermore is refers to NT4TS and speaks of local printer. I belive that if you change
printer config, you have to change script .

For my opinion the best is to leave user choose printer,
but if you want setup it by script, use con2prt.exe utility.

if you have not w2kreskit go

If this appens when machine reboots, probably the users
have not a own-defined default printer, and exists a key as

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Printers

that set a printer for all if not user-defined.

bye
