Default Printer is being de-selected

I have a user whose default printer does not stay selected. When going in to Word, it gives a message that Window can not print due to a problem with the current printer setup. If he goes in and re-selects his default printer through the printer settings folder, he is able to print again. After a while, it gives him the same error and his has to select his default printer again. What's up? No other printers are selected as the default when this happens.
