I have an application server. When a user prints a report using an application on the application server it prints to the default printer on the application server. (Normal behavior)

I want a non domain admin to be able to change the default printer on the application server by using a script from their remote computer. They will not be able to RDP into the application server.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The application doesn't offer the ability to choose the printer to print to?

Setting the default printer requires a user session. The use would need to be logged in on that server.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Changing the default printer by script does not require a user session if you're a domain admin. So the question is, How do I simulate the actions of a domain admin's ability to change the default printer by VB script without being a domain admin? Or do I need a more powerful language like c++?

thanks..

Well, you seem to know something I don't because getting a WSHNETWORK.SETDEFAULTPRINTER command to run requires a user session whether that is the admin session or another user.

You are on your own.

I hope you find this post helpful.

please elobarite egodette? how are you getting a domain admin to change the default printer remotely?

i presume you have more than one user of this app? if so then you would seemingly never endingly flip flop the default printer? not to mention you would need to maintain all the 'relevant' printers for each user on that particular app server....seems like the wrong way about the whole bizness.

i presume the app is a whole lot of rubbish.

whats the deal with printing a file somewhere? or one of those funny pdf printers...would that help you out or offer some alternative? is there any joy in the old school LPT1 redirects etc?
