Default Instance/Custom Instance - newbie

I have a quick question. During the installation process. If I do a custom instance can I point the \mssql\data and \mssql\log folders to a different drive.

Will I still have access to everything.

Creating a named instance, or just using the default instance name, you are always able to direct where you would like the data and tlogs folders to be created. You will have all the usual access on either creation methods
