Greetings all,

I was wondering if there is a way to change the default download directory of MSIE? I've searched the net and found a way, that, sure enough, did work:

[Regedit]"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" Create a new String value with key Download Directory and set the value to a valid directory (ex: C:\Download)

And to enable it one would have to reboot, which I did. I tried to download a file, and the directory selected was the given one. But I closed the window, opened a new one and downloaded the same file. This time, however, the download directoyr was the desktop.
I've not found any other ways to do this.

So, any one have a clue to what one can do to fix this?

Sincerly,
/Martin

The registry entry that you did was the correct one - i've made it myself and have it working fine.

Two things spring to mind.

1) Even with the above registry entry set, Internet Explorer will remember the last used locations while a single instance is open. For example if your default location is C:\Downloads.
You visit download.com and download some file - it prompts you to save to your default folder as per the reg setting.
You then download the same file again - it again prompts you to save to the default folder - however this time you pick the desktop.
Finally you download the file again - This time IE prompts you to save to the Desktop.
However if you close IE and try and download the file again it defaults to your reg setting location.

If this is what you are experiencing then this is by design and I know of no way round it.

2) If that does not explain your situation, does the reg setting still state the folder you wanted as your default?

Umm.. never mind about my post [neutral] .... I found the problem. The registry key was deleted automaticly when closing last MSIE windows, and by a coinsident I came to think of a software I'm running; IE Privacy Keeper (freeware)... and noticed I had checked the box "Folder to download", so the registry key was deleted when last MSIE window is closed!

Problem solved!

*feeling bit stupid* ;D
