I have a panasonic KX TA 1232 with 7 CO/Trunks connected. I want to configure trunk 6 as a dedicated line for a fax machine. I programmed the line DID/DIN 1:1 and all is well for inbound faxes. Here is what I am missing though, any help would be appreciated:

1) When the fax machine is in use by dialing 9 for the outbound call is uses the first avialable trunk. A call inbound for the busy fax machine goes to voicemail. I beleive this is a 2 part problem but I dint know exactly which progrmas to use to correct it.

a) The second call to the fax line should get a busy
b) Any calls to this number (and the 1:1) extenstion should never go to voicemail
c) When I dial 9 from the fax it should go out trunk #6.
d) if trunk #6 is busy (ie: a call was placed by an extension outbound and 1-5 were busy) then the outbound fax should pick the next avaialble trunk. If the FAX extension is busy now and a new call comes in tot he fax number it should get a busy

2) I want to keep trunk 6 available for outbound calls by other users if the fax is not busy (and its ok that inbound fax calls get a busy at this time)

FYI: I have all 7 trunks in seperate trunk groups so that each could have its own light at the main console.

Change CO outgoing access for the fax machines extension to only enable it to use line 6 this way dialing 9 will only grab line 6.

to do above you will need to know the last 2 digits of the fax extention no: (ie) lets say you have the fax working on jack 6 of the 1232 system this would commonly be ext 206..now if you have extra device port (XDP) set on that port then the port would be extention 106 in this case in programming you would have to program the -2 part of the port....

in the above setup

into system programming
go to DAY OUT CO
press SPEAKER PHONE
type * (for all lines )
type 06 for jack 06 (press sp phone here if using (xdp)
press auto ans/mute until the display says disable
press autodial store.

in above command you have told the system that jack 06-2 cannot make any calls out during the day

now for part 2 (enable calls out on line 6 only in day mode

into system programming
go to DAY OUT CO
press SPEAKER PHONE
type 06 (for line 6 )
type 06 for jack 06 (press sp phone here if using (xdp)
press auto ans/mute until the display says enable
press autodial store.

thats it calls out on lines 6 only during the day
you can do the same again for night mode everything is the same as day only at start choose Night Out Co

hope this helps

Thanks, the answer is almost what I as talking about.

1) If I pick up the fax extension and dial another desk the inbound call still goes to VM.
2) I want TK6 to remain in the outbound pool so if the first 5 are busy users can still place a call, in this case I want an inbound fax to get a busy.

It sounds like you have line 6 in your rollover from the telephone company in order for this to work you will have to remove line 6 from the rollover. ie. if lines 1-6 are busy it rings to line 7. You need to turn this off in order for the fax line to get a busy signal while in use. This feature is something only the local telephone company can turn on and off. You will still be able to use the line when idle for incomming calls it just won't be in your incomming rollover.

this could well be a forward on busy issue on the fax ext
to check go off hook on the fax ext then type 7100 you should hear a long tone if a service has been set the above command tells the system to cancle call forward to from this extention.

trk 6 is not part of the hunt group. I have 7 Co lines, 1-5 are hunt, 6 and 7 are not part of the group at all. 6 is for FAX only and 7 is for a conference room.

PS: THANKS for actually taking the time to answer me. Most of my other posts repsonses have been read the manual. Done that, been there. Didnt help.
