Does the DMC 320 need to be connected to the BCM in order to do basic programming such as changing the pswd?

I'm using the same cable I use to get into a BCM via the serial port and can't connect to the DMC. Say DMC not detected.

Make sure your using the serial port closest to the front of the DMC, becuse they're two.

I'm using the top one that has a computer icon above it.

Make sure you are using a null modem cable not just a serial.

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

When your in the wrong one, the CTS still shows. I never saw the icon, but if it's mounted on wall, it's the closest to the front, guess if it's laying on a table or rack it would be top. But like CTCINY says, it needs to be null.

Connecting to a BCM via serial port requires a null modem cable doesn't it? That's the same cable I'm using.

I'll have to buy another cable.
