Deciding on a firewall.

I am trying to decide if a Cisco PIX 501 Firewall is worth the extra $300 over a 3Com OfficeConnect Firewall in only a 12 user environment.

Another question I have is that if we get the 10-User license, does it automatically designate which stations can go through it, or does it just allow the first 10 users trying to access the internet to get through. We very rarely have more than 2 or 3 users at a time on the internet.

Any help would be appreciated.

HI.

The pix 10 user license will allow only the first 10 hosts that go out, and then will block the other (until the pix is rebooted).
If all workstations need Internet access, you will need another product or license.
If not all workstations need to go out, you should make sure that only 10 or less have a default gateway.
