I just installed debian. Everyting works alright except that after I connect, I can't access anything in the web neither I can access debian to download security updates.

Any help will be appreciated.

What do you mean? You get a connection, but cannot send or receive data, or you do not successfully connect? Try issuing a PING command to see if there is any activity or if it times out.

Check:
1. Your modem is configured correctly
2. You have entered the correct DNS information
3. Try connecting as root. If you can connect and use the web as root, then it is a permissions problem. If so, you need to set the internet accessible by all users. To do this, issue the command ls -l /usr/sbin/pppd. If there is no 's' in the user setttings, issue the command:
chmod +s /usr/sbin/pppd

If you use kppp, do the same thing (issue a chmod +s /usr/sbin/kppp if you do not have the correct rights).

Also please give more information on any error messages, and what dial-up tool you are using e.g. KPPP.

Post back if you are still having problems.

I had done those and none worked properly.

Modem is fine, DNS and everything else is fine and it is really strange. I get a connection as you said but I can't send/receive data. I haven't tried pinging though. I used kppp and also wvdial.

Everything sames fine. Except no data goes/comes through.

I will try pinging and make sure the DNS inforamtion again. I just need to reboot and I will do that after doing some other stuff that I eed to do.

Thanks anyway
