I'm preparing fot 70-291 and the Syngress book is giving me loads on WINS. I'm totally bummed out with it.

How much WINS do you get on the exam? Or is it all DNS?

Any pointers for 291 please?

BF

You need a very good working knowledge of WINS to pass the networking exams.

I just took my 291 test last week. Wins was very very minimal on my test. There was i think 2 questions with scenarios and you had to say point it to the wins server. I wouldnt worry much about wins. But DO know DNS big time. Forwarders, conditional forwarding, stub zones, secondary zones and so on...

Interesting. I had a LOT of WINS questions on mine. Gotta love the random test pools :p

To top it off I didnt have a single Subnetting specific question either.

Been and failed 291 now, resitting next week.

It's basically a big DNS exam with some SUS and then a few varied questions on all the rest.

-I failed on DNS only - I got two SIMs on that and plenty of others too. Must know all the tabs backwards and forwards, I'm making little card copies of the tabs of server and zone properties to get to know them.

-Lots of SUS, in detail

-Two very simple subnetting questions, no recursive subnetting

-Couple of ICS questions

-No WINS at all

-No Wifi LEAP/PEAP of any sort

-No 'what windows version uses Ms-CHAP v2 questions', though I'll probably get those next time instead.

Maybe you just got lucky. Maybe I was just unlucky.

Either way, I recall with pretty good clarity the one subnetting question on 70-291 that I got.

It was something along the lines of:

What is the last host address available in the range 10.1.1.0/17?

The IP range above is just off the top of my head, but the question was phrased exactly like that. Very atypical of a MS exam question.

Hmm yeah the only subnetting related questions I had were Host A couldn't connect to Server A but host B could etc and it's just down the the wrong mask on a router, rather than you actually have to know subnetting.

As for WINS I got a couple of questions on it but nothing too difficult, as BigFinn said it's mostly DNS.
