Dear All,

I am new sysadmin to Solaris 2.5.1 i am trying to install a C/C++ compiler ( 4.2 ), The media is shipped along with the Unix Box ( SUN WORKSHOP for Solaris 2X ).

Please help me out of this

One choice is to go grab the gcc compiler at

http://www.sunfreeware.com...

I havent installed the complier that comes with the workshop, as I use gcc when/where ever possible

Not too sure if this will help (ours is Workshop 5.0), but:

cd /cdrom/<directory> (eg devpro_v6n1_sparc)

Find the names of the metaclusters to be installed by typing:

bin/clustinfo (this gives details of metaclusters by name)

Install the licence manager (in our case FLEXlm_6.1):

bin/clustadd FLEXlm_6.1 (You'll need your licensing information as supplied by Sun Licence Centre)

Install other metaclusters for C/C++:

bin/clustadd SPROMCCC

If using the Korn shell, edit your .profile so that the PATH setting includes:

install_directory/SUNWspro/bin

and your MANPATH includes:

install_directory/SUNWspro/man:SUNWste/licence_tools/man

I hope this helps. Details of installing licences are included in the Quick Install booklet accompanying the software - there are too many options to include here, depending upon how you received your licensing information.
