Dealing with large dimensions and performance issues

Hey guys,

I'd like to know how you deal with large dimensions such as insurance policy owners that contains over a million rows and maintain good query performance without immediately resorting to hardware upgrades? Do I need to create aggregates?

You need to have good surrogate/synthetic/warehouse keys and indexes on those keys.
