I am using a parameter field where the user enters the staff surname to return the results but if it is typed in lower case the reports returns nothing. Can anyone help please?

Assuming that the parameter isn't in a stored procedure, just modify the record selection formula to be:

uppcase({table.field}) = uppercase({?yourparameter})

-k

Crystal has an option (File|Options or File|Report Options) called 'Case-Insensitive SQL Data'. Depending on your database, you can simply check this field.

FYI, Oracle doesn't recognize case-insensitive data...
