Dead POTS port?

I have a 016 card in one of my locations' Merlin Magix r2 systems. One of our cordless POTS lines read "NO LINE" on the display. Sure enough there's no dialtone. Nothing has changed in the setup that I can tell.

I tried resetting the slot in SPM. Still no dial tone. I tried running a station test on this line and it came back saying No Response. I can busy out and restore the port fine.

Think it's a bad POTS port on the board?

If it's a Magix 016 - especially an "617F" model - try resetting the entire board, then restoring it. This may bring the port back to life - for a while - but it probably won't last. Those boards had "issues".

I did that before I tested the individual port. Winds up a wiring issue at the opposite end from the Merlin. The jack was apparently faulty.

Thanks for the reply. Glad it wasn't the board itself going South. I do know that once a month or two we get some POTS ports that fall over and I have to reset the 016 board. But it's not that bad for now. If it happens more frequently I'll look to replace it.

I was being too lazy (lol) to go through the initial troubleshooting step of plugging my POTS phone directly into the port on the board. I need to clean up the cabling leading into the Merlin and didn't want to pull through all of the spaghetti :) But finally I bit the bullet and did so. Now it's solved.

Thanks again!

If the 016 T/R does need to be replaced, there are a couple of options:

1) Purchase a Magix T/R module that is older than the 617F,
2) Purchase a Legend 016 T/R module and switch the front bracket.
3) You can go with a 016 ETR module and configure some of the last ports as T/R.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.
