Dead phone/port - halp please

I had a phone go dead today. Nothing showing on the display. I went to the phone room, removed the dead phone from the port/jack it was plugged into and plugged it into a different jack for a phone that we weren't currently using. The phone showed nothing and would not respond in the new jack. So I tried a second jack. Again nothing. Now here's the funny part - when I plugged the two phones back to their original jacks, neither of them would work now. Does anyone know what is causing this? If I reboot the phone system, will it bring the phone jacks back on line or do I have to buy two new expansion cards? I am completely clueless on this one. Any help would be appreciated.

When all else false Reboot... The Partners seem to have some type of surge protection built into their cards, and usually recycling the power clears it up. Sometimes a bad short will blow the port for good though, so be carefull.

Hi soupmix,
When testing phones, I always plug the phone directly into the port, then another if the phone doesn't come up. This way you eliminate wiring defects in your test. Redphone is correct. If your Partner does weird things... turn it off, then back on. That normally fixes most problems.
Yesturday I had a service call, no audio on the phone. It turned out that the customer's electrician relocated the cable. He ripped the insulation on the cable and broke one of the first pair wires (audio). I finally found the break and spliced it. It took a week to fail though. It was a really ugly run, or I would have replaced the cable.
