Hi,

I got a new system with vpathes on it, but I do not have too much experiance with it.
I am facing with the following problem:
In one of the vpath the status of one of the hdisk is: DEAD

How can I get more about this error and how serious the problem is?

DEV#: 3 DEVICE NAME: vpath3 TYPE: xxxxxxx POLICY: Optimized
SERIAL: xxxxxx
==========================================================================
Path# Adapter/Hard Disk State Mode Select Errors
0 fscsi0/hdisk6 OPEN NORMAL xxxxxxxx 0
1 fscsi1/hdisk10 DEAD NORMAL xxxxxxxx 4

In the errpt there were 3 messages related to this problem:

FCS_ERR2
FSCSI_ERR4
SC_DISK_ERR3

hi,

is this happening on all disks or just the one you list above.

try a dd if=/dev/hdisk10 of=/dev/null bs=64k

after 30 seconds interrupt it with ctrl c
(does it show p as any errors when doing dd)
check your physical connection i.e. your card see if any lights flashing which means error state , check cable.

check from your disk array if it can see both paths successfully

Hi,

Thx for your reply...

This happened only for hdisk10. The other disk are OK.
Here is the result:

dd if=/dev/hdisk10 of=/dev/null bs=64k
^C0+0 records in.
0+0 records out.

In the errpt there are 3 messages generated after running dd if=/dev/hdisk10 of=/dev/null bs=64k:

Hello,

You were right! The FC-cabel was bad.
The problem has been solved now. Thank you for the hints.
