I have XP (home)installed in a machine that had two hard drives. My D: drive died. Now, XP thinks certain programs that I hade on D: are still installed and I cannot uninstall them so I can reinstall them on C:.

Sounds like you have little to lose at this point.

Have you tried just removing any remnants you can find under C:\Program Files (I know, but a lot of programs still put pieces/parts there even if you tell their installers to use D:\ or something)?

Then just reinstall and see what happens?

I wouldn't think you would need to uninstall to reinstall unless you had upgraded the old programs or something. Wouldn't the machine just look at this like a reinstall?
