I have a DDS4 drive that only backs up 30Gb of data. Anything over 30Gb and Veritas v8.6 asks for another tape.

The DDS4 was a replacement for a DDS3. The system drivers were updated, Veritas drivers updated.

Further information can be supplied if required.

Cracked it. To achive 40Gb the system would need to use 100% compression, which is unlikely. It's down to what type of files the system is trying to compress. We have a large number of CAD file that probably don't compress well.

Thanks
Tim

Which was why I asked the capacity. You have a 20/40 drive but are only getting 30GB. Yup, that's normal...

Does anyone know why Seagate DDS4 tape can back up over 52G, but other brands DDS4 tapes like Sony and Imation can back up only less than 29G? I have many cad files that explain the high compression ratio. My tape drive is a Seagate Scorpion 40 running Veritas v8.6 Small Business Server edition.

Please ignore my previous post. The outrageous 52G claim was wrong.
