Hi all,

I use Solaris 2.6 every few days when I insert the tape into the driver the lights does not flash and the tape stops to respond than I have to restart the server extract the tape and then insert it again (it happens once every 10 days). Is there a way to restart the tape drier without restarting the server?

Regards

You could try to 'wake it up' before inserting the tape with an mt command something like mt -f /dev/rmt/0 status, even if this produces no useful result it might kick start the driver. A shot in the dark, however!

I want to be good, is that not enough?

We have the same problem here with our last remaining 2.6 server. The only way to get the tape drive back once this happens is to power cycle the server. As to why it happens? Sun haven't ever given us a satisfactory answer.

Not a lot of help but at least your not alone.
