motherboard is supposedly compatible with ddr2 800mhz ram. I currently have upgraded to Windows 7 OS with 64 bit. I purchased Patriot Extreme Performance 2G x 4 PC2-6400 DDR2-800Mhz. I have an Asus M2n SLI deluxe motherboard. When putting the RAM in (switching) i get no boot to bios at all. I am currently running BIOS 1604 with a Phenom X2 9650 quad core processor. My other ram is not the same at all. So after reading information i reset the jumper to clear to default settings and still nothing from the RAM.

Now when i actually mix up the RAM (my oCZ and my new RAm - even within the same slots - i at least get a boot up)but it is freezing in Windows 7. Is there some manual settings that i need to change in the BIOS to get this RAM to work. Right now i am working with 3 gigs of RAM but have 8 gigs ready to go, but can't get it working.

I have no clue when it comes to changing the settings in the BIOS for the RAM for clocking speeds so i don't want to get to in depth. Hoping there is some quick fix for this or something that I may be missing.

Thanks for all help in advance.

This doesn't really answer your question fully but the new Patriot ram will probably be low latency with heat spreaders....am I correct? this stuff has to be manually over volted to set it at it's advertised speed and latency settings otherwise you might as well have bought generic PC640o.
Without these adjustments you will not be gaining anything by fitting this ram type.
As for the other stuff: is your power supply up to the job?
Is the motherboard capable of supporting (stabley) the quad core (some of the AM2+ boards struggle with the high wattage that these CPU's and associated hardware demand)
A bios flash to the latest often makes the motherboard more capatible with different memory types.

I would also suggest looking at the ram compatability for that asus board. I was in the same boat and it turned out i had to purchase ram that was on their compatability list to get the board to recognise it.

i tried to manually adjust the RAM voltage and speeds to no avail. still would not recognize it.. i guess i'm just out on this one.. i'm chalking it up to incompatible ram. thanks for all the help

Adjusting the RAM voltage with incompatible RAM will not cause it to work. Martin's suggestion was for getting the RAM to run at spec, not to make it compatible. If it's incompatible, your only hope is to flash the BIOS as Martin recommended and hope the newer BIOS is now compatible with your RAM.

i understood what Martin was saying. Just the vendors compatibility list showed no 2GIG ddr800 RAM. I was hoping that this would work and i upgraded to the latest BIOS with no luck. I'll just have to buy other RAM.

2 things from my experience with RAM and Vista (I know you're on 7)

1)There are times you get a bad stick of RAM

2) Sometimes in several 64bit installs of Vista it has taken a long long long long time for the box to understand what's going on and even get to the BIOS

with that being said DonMc67
i leave the RAM in for about 25 seconds.. i'm getting no display on my monitor at all (signal not detected) are you saying i should possibly let it sit for a few minutes?
