Can you combine the DDEQUERY with the GETANDSET function?
Here is my rule now:
=DDEQUERY( "TPPC", COMPANY_NAME, "UNBControlReference" )

What I need to do is not only pull the control number I need to update it to the next number after it is pulled. I've tried many ways but none will analyze.

GETANDSET is a file function.
You might want to contact TPPC support since Mercator/Ascential/IBM no longer owns TP PC. This should be something they have had to handle before.

I have already done that. They are aware that advancing the control number is an issue with EDIFACT data so I was attempting to do it myself until their patch comes out. I can do it succesfully with using a text file, but using a text file causes other issues when sending the 997 for inbound documents.
