DDE link is lost when opening mail merge from Access

Please has anybody had a problem with DDE links in Access. I have an MS 2007 database that opens a word document from a button on a form. The form has a query behind it which is used by the mail merge word document as its parameters. But when I press the button in Access, another version of the database opens and the mail merge document loses its link and has to be set up again to choose the database and query to run from.

I don't remember this being a problem with previous versions of access.

Did you ever find a solution to your DDE problem. I have the same problem with DDE application I had developed that started up Word Template and pulled data into word via DDE. Worked in Office 2000 but not in 2003.
