I want to bring Photoshop DCS2 EPS (black/1 spot) into Freehand to write a 2-color PDF (black/1 spot) to send to a publication.

The problem is, when I print to the "Generic PostScript Printer" as a composite, Freehand is using the preview EPS and the PDF ends up with CMYK + spot. When I print separations, however, it comes out great.

I tried "hijacking" the Cyan plate but Freehand still uses the preview image and the quality is poor.

Any suggestions?

Yor file should be o.k. when you sent it to the printer, just make sure the Pantone name in Photoshop is spelled the
same as in Freehand. It's also comming up CMYK + spot, in Freehand because thats the color space your are using in Freehand. I've worked on many files at the printer I work for with DCS files placed in Freehand and have ripped them with no problems. When you send the file to your printer be sure to include the DCS file along with the Freehand file.
Alot of people forget to do this.

Don't be surprised if your printer places your Freehand file into a Quark file to rip down, so be sure to include trim marks in your Freehand file. If need more info contact me.
