dcpromo on W2K3 R2 1

Hi!

We have 2 W2K3 DC's and I tried to introduce a 3rd into an existing domain via DCPROMO - this fell over with the following error bacause the server is R2:

CAUSE
This issue may occur when Active Directory has not been updated with the Windows Server 2003 R2 schema extensions..

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, run the adprep.exe /forestprep command from the Windows Server 2003 R2 installation disk 2 on the schema master. To do this, insert the Windows Server 2003 R2 installation disk 2, and then type the following command:
Drive:\CMPNENTS\R2\ADPREP\adprep.exe /forestprep

If I run this from the schema domain controller I presume I wont need to update any other AD components or are there any pitfalls to be aware of??

Your schema is v30. R2 requires v31.

Updating schema is quick, but if things go wrong you may destroy your AD so take a backup before you do anything.

No, you dont have to update anything else.
