I built a "temp" server to upgrade a current nt 4.0 (3 servers) network to 2000. I installed nt4.0 on it added it to the current domain. Then I removed it and upgraded it to 2000. Placed it on the "new" domain (with 3 new servers). Transferred all FSMO roles the "real servers" and everything appeared to be OK following the DCPROMO. However, This temp server still shows up in Active Directory. I need to remove it, but the "temp" server is no longer around (reformatted and now a user's workstation). Is their a way to remove this "temp" server at this point?

Yes, take a look at my FAQ on how to forcefully remove a server from AD. There is a script in the FAQ that will do it for you very easily.

If you already have all of your FSMO roles in order this is an easy task for you with the script.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark
