DCOM traffic from Exchange 2003 Server

What kind of traffic is DCOM traffic from an Exchange 2003 server.

We have been suffering from network slow downs on one of our sites after installing exchange 2003 whilst trouble shooting the project has rolled out to another site and the same problem is occuring.

Using packet shaping I nailed the majority of the traffic down to DCOM from the exchange server back to HQ over the WAN.

I don't know what this traffic is, the server is not reporting any obvious events.

Any ideas?
