I work on IP based phone systems. After making a change to a wizard on 2 identical servers that back each other up, one server will not start its dcom services. The other server is fine and functioning.
Windows 2003 standard SP1
Server1 --dcom is down
Server2 --all is well
The evnt vwr says COM errors related to security. Some functions on the server have disappeared like drag & drop, pop up of properties box. The server lets you cut or copy but can not paste. (This is where the challange of this whole problem comes in.) When going into Event Viewer or Dcomcnfg the server does not let you view any properties. When you highlight or double click an error, nothing happends. Same with the dcom properties. So you cannot fix anything from the local server. So I found a MS article saying that from another computer I can add the server to the components list and modify settings from there.
I entered Component Services and can see the differences in the "Launch Permissons section" The problem is that in Server1 the Administrators security object is listing as the local account of Server2 instead.
Example-- Administrators (Server2\Administrators) it should be --Administrators (Server1\Administrators)
also the two objects for the local Launch IIS and Internet Guest account are showing like sid descriptors instead of objects.
The delema comes when I try to add the correct Administrators account for that local server I cannot do it because I am remoted in from Server2. It adds the Administrators local to Server2 since that is where I am adding it from.
Questions? Is there a way to correct in the Registry?
Is there a work around to get services up so that I can get in to make chages to the Launch Permissions?
Any help very appreciated.
