Hello,

we are getting event 10005 due to the deactivation of removable storage mgr for san backup purposes.

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service ntmssvc with arguments "-Service" in order to run the server:
{D61A27C6-8F53-11D0-BFA0-00A024151983}

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
We can disable this easy on win2000 by running dcomcnfg, then highlighting "ntmssvc" and editing its properties so that it doesnt run.

On win2003, dcomcnfg is different and I can seem to stop the DCOM messages.

does anyone no how??

thanks
Mike

I noticed these extra steps when using dcomcnfg.exe in windows server 2003.

Run Dcomcnfg.exe.
If you are running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, perform these additional steps:
Click the Component Services node under Console Root.
Open the Computers folder.
For the local computer, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
For a remote computer, right-click Computers folder, point to New, and then click Computer.
Type the computer name.
Right-click the computer name, and then click Properties

Hopefully this will get you going in the right track.
